Who We Are
fivemilehistory.com is organized and operated by a
local historian, Staci Glover, chair of the Five Mile
Creek Greenway Partnership Local History Committee
. Staci is a graduate of the University of Alabama at
Birmingham and is currently active in the profession,
teaching, writing articles, and conducting research on
coal miners their families during the early to mid-20th
century in Jefferson County, Alabama. Her M.A.
Thesis, A History of the Slovak Community at
Brookside, Alabama details the history of Slovak coal
miners in the small Jefferson County town from the
1890s to the present.
Our Interests
Staci's research interests include coal mining, the
lives of rural folk, and religion in the South. Her
goal for this website is to provide a forum to share
her thoughts and discuss with others these topics
as they relate to the communities along Five Mile
Creek.
